Uglies is a book that's about a girl named Tally. In Tally's life, everything is perfect after you turn 16. The day of your 16th birthday, you undergo surgery that makes you pretty. What she doesn't know yet is that the surgery is very brain-damaging.

A couple months before the time of her designated surgery, Tally meets Shay. Shay is an ugly who has the exact same birthday as Tally. But a few days before their birthdays, Shay runs away to a place she calls, 'The Smoke.'

When the day finally comes for Tally to turn pretty, Tally is taken to Special Circumstances. Few uglies have ever been taken there, but many have heard of it. While she is there, she is questioned by a Special named Dr. Cable. Dr. Cable is sending Tally off into the wild to search for The Smoke. Basically, Tally is being used as a spy. But when Tally is sent into the Smoke, she finds that being pretty isn't a good thing all the time...

Do you want to know what happens next? Find this book yourself and read it! I rated it as an 8/10, because though it was an extremely good book, it was boring when I tried to reread it. This book is the first of an attention-grabbing trilogy. The other two books are Pretties and Specials.
